Physical education and health in Singapore and Indonesia have much similarity in which today both facing the challenge of globalization that requires innovation to produce competitive physical education, conveyed by Prof. Michael Chia, Ph.D. Prof Chia is also the Dean of the Faculty of Sport Sciences at the National Institute of Education, Singapore. Furthermore, Chia was also deeply pleased and honored to be invited as a speaker in the 'Studium Generale' and 'Guest Lecture' organized by Physical Education, Health, and Recreation Study Program from 5th to 7th October 2016 at Faculty of Sport Sciences Yogyakarta State University (YSU). At the end of his speech, Chia also hoped that there would be established cooperation between the National Institute of Education and Faculty of Sport Sciences YSU both in teaching, research, and student exchange.
In line with Prof. Chia, Dean of Faculty of Sport Sciences Yogyakarta State University (YSU), Prof. Dr. Wawan S. Suherman, M.Ed., welcomed Prof. Michael Chia, Ph.D. to provide knowledge and experience, especially related to physical education and health in Singapore. Given the reputation of sport and physical education achievement Great Singapore in the ASEAN region and ASIA, the Dean hoped to take the insights of a physical education expert from Singapore in these activities. The Dean helped explaining the four study programs, human resources, and infrastructures owned by Faculty of Sport Sciences Yogyakarta State University (YSU) in realizing the vision and the missions.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Sport Education Department, Erwin Setyo Kriswanto, Kes. revealed that in order to realize the vision of Yogyakarta State University and the Faculty of Sport Sciences to become 'world class university', the Department of Sport Education did have a program to invite Professor of Physical Education and Fitness to become the speaker in the 'Studium Generale' and as a 'guest lecture'. The activity was expected to further deepen and expand the horizons of faculty and students majoring in Physical Education especially in physical education and health of physical education experts from the ASEAN region.
