Followed by 17 Sport Coaching Education Study Program from Medan, Padang, Jakarta, Bandung, Bali, to Gorontalo, Association of Sports Coaching Education Study Program held a meeting in Faculty of Sport Sciences YSU (1/11). This activity is one of the Sport Coaching Education Study Program (PKO) effort to improve the quality and produce graduates who are innovative. One of the steps taken was to actively establish communication and discussion among sport coaching study program around Indonesia. Aside from being a means of communication and discussion, the meeting also invited Prof. Dr. Hari Setiyono, M.Pd. from Unesa Surabaya, Prof. Dr. Wawan S. Suherman, M.Ed. and Prof. Dr. Siswantoyo, Kes., both from Faculty of Sport Sciences YSU the speakers of the meeting.
In his speech, Dr. Imam Marsudi, as the Head of Indonesia Sport Coaching Education Study Program Association thanked to YSU for their support and commitment to work together to improve the availability and quality of sports coaching in Indonesia. In addition, Imam also hoped that Indonesia Sport Coaching Education Study Program Association soon have accredited national coaching journals so that the academic and sports coaching academicians and practitioners can publish their works.
Considering the field of sports coaching expertise, today the term either in coaching or 'sports science' still growing in the world that includes coaching techniques and coaching sports physical exercise, said by Prof. Dr. Wawan S. Suherman, M.Ed. Furthermore, Prof. Dr. Hari Setiyono, M.Pd. who is a former Deputy V Kemenpora RI and currently serves as Director of Sport Science in Unesa Surabaya explained that currently the coach of various licenses has advantages and disadvantages of each. As exemplified that a coach who is an ex athlete has mastery of skills, experience, and the experience of playing that is generally more powerful than the coach who comes from academicians. "However, the coaches of academic backgrounds have mastery of physical training, psychological training, mastery 'sports science', and the preparation of training programs that may not be owned by the coach who was once an athlete. Therefore, sport coaching should be able to combine sports coaching 'strenghts and weaknesses' that currently exists on the coaches in Indonesia, "he added.Furthermore, Hari added that a professional coach is a better teacher, an expert in the sport that is occupied, and of course has to get recognition from the people.
